Everything a Thief Needs to Know – Fall 2020 Event

The portal is calling. Our Grand Event of 2020 is approaching and here is everything you need to know.

Arrival / Camping
Friday is open for our thieves to arrive and set up camp (Please do not arrive on Thursday to set up in advance, that day is reserved for The Council). Both sides are available for camping – the side where The Hall has been built, and the side across the stone bridge. Keep in mind that the side across the bridge will be the quieter option. Also, when setting up, please be respectful of space, for the portal doesn’t open for some until Saturday, and they will need a place to set up their tents as well.

Pack warm, because the nights get very chilly. Blankets are always nice to have around the fire.

Facilities / Outhouse
We have one outhouse, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to keep it clean and in usable condition at all times! We will have signs posted inside describing how to use it. You would be surprised how much it perplexes some, so please read the signs.

Food / Potluck
On Friday, everyone will be on their own for dinner, so please keep this in mind and bring food with you for this meal.
We will be providing Saturday breakfast, and thanks to our potluck volunteers, there will be Saturday Lunch and Dinner as well. If you have signed up to bring food, please don’t forget to bring it. If it requires to be heated, please bring a pot, skillet, etc. If your food requires to be kept cold, please bring your own cooler and ice, as our cooler space is limited. Yes, it’s cold outside, but it is also Texas, so that could mean warmer temperatures during the day, and perishable food needs to be kept cold to be safe. We will have eco-friendly plates and bowls that can be safely tossed on the fire after use to minimize waste.

Trash
Please remember our dear friends Jack and Amy live on this land, it is their home, and when the portal opens they are Ailynn and Ehlanna. They want to enjoy The Alley with you, and not have to clean up after you, so please clean up after yourselves. This not only means keeping the grounds free of litter, but also the tables and The Hall. Many bags of trash are accumulated over the weekend, and if you have the ability to help us out by taking a bag with you when you leave, we would really appreciate it.

Playing the Part / Anachronisms
Come in character, dress the part, and have fun with it.
You’re just starting out with your outfit, and it’s not exactly how you want it? That’s okay, you have to start somewhere.
Not any good at speaking with an accent? No problem, many of us don’t.
You don’t have a backstory? Just come up with a name.
We just ask that you try. When you try, so do others, and it makes this event an escape from everyday life.

This year we will help with anachronisms by banning plastic bottles and cans. Imagine having the perfect magic mirror image captured of you, and there’s a Gatorade bottle sitting at the table in front of you, or a Redbull in your hand. It kind of ruins the magic, right? We pay a lot of money to look the part, so lets not destroy the whimsy with modern items. We will have drinking vessels for sale and for rent to prevent this.

Currency Exchange
When you enter the portal, the currency changes to Thaler. Professor Grey will be doing the exchange, so find him to complete your transaction.
$1 = 1 Thaler, so it’s a very easy exchange rate to remember. We will also have special coins this year as well – 1 Thaler coins and 5 Thaler coins.

Things to do with Thaler:
– Buy libations – You can pay per drink, or pay for a “drinking pass” (for beer)
– Tip your barmaids
– Place bets / play games
– Purchase items that some thieves will have for sale
– Rent/buy drinking vessels
– Bribe other thieves
Raffles!
We will be raffling off a unique lighter and cigarette case

and a specially made Axe Target

$2 per ticket
or
$10 gets you a bonus ticket (6 tickets total)

Drawing will be on Saturday

Activities
We will be having all of your old favorites: Axe Throwing, the Steal-able Item Challenge, Beggar’s Dice, and songs around the fire
There will be some new activities as well, including: Candle making, “Hammer the Log” – a new game of skill, and one of our new thieves will be teaching a craft she has learned throughout her many travels.
